BMW Roadster Homecoming 2003 (part11)

The Dragon, bites back:

Some of you may recall the site of this Artic Silver Z in front of the Marriott two years ago when Wardhog pushed a bit too hard lost it in woods.

Thanks Tim, for leaving this pic online, less it would be a little red X instead.

Given the seriousness of the accident the attention to detail in obtaining matching duct tape is impressive.

(Sorry, sick British humour)

His original post following HC01, has anyone heard from Wardhog? Haven't heard hide nor hair from him in the last year.

I've got the lowdown on the cost and time it will take to get the WARDHOG up and running. It will cost the insurance company around 8K+ and me my deduction, travel and time away from my baby(2to3 weeks). I was reading the MB about tires and my name came up and I wanted to clear up the confusing about what tires were on at the time of the you know what. I had Yokohama AVS DBs on with only about 800 miles on them when I bulldozed the mountain. I had on Yokohama AVS Sports but had to change them out because the rear tires were worn out because of neg. camber due to H&R sport suspension lowering the ride. I than ordered and installed a set of stock rear springs to fix the neg camber problem and then installed the new set of tires.
I do want to say thanks for the help all gave to me during my crises and don't know where to begin. Despite of the problem, I still had a good time and am looking forward to seeing all again next year.
Does anyone have any pics of my car they could post for me? I sure would like to see some.
Thanks!!!

And now, it was my turn: My princess was also bitten this year, nowhere near as severe as Wardhog, but she now bears Dragon scars on her under-belly. It happened Thursday morning when some of us were taking a few runs up & down the Dragon before departing for Greenville. Michelle caught me in the parking lot of the Topoco Lodge and asked me if I minded a passenger when she learned I was headed for the Dragon. I said, "Sure, jump in!" Now, the ride up, you should know is my personal favorite, since gravity is working to slow the car rather than accelerate it. However, on one tight corner I came into it a bit too fast and skidded off into the shoulder. Under normal circumstances this would not be an issue since it was only 10 or 12 inches off the road. In this particular case we happened to find a corner which had been built up quite high from last year's repaving. The road literally dropped off  a good 8+ inches and we heard some nasty scrapping underneath. I recovered and got back onto the pavement and continued. When we stopped at the overlook to rest I checked for visible damage and found none. At least the front spoiler lip was spared. I figured I had bruised some frame-work underneath and since I didn't see or feel anything major, I pushed it aside. Last night I put the car up on ramps to crawl under for a closer look. Here are the results:

As you can see they are mostly cosmetic and in no way hinder performance or safety, So sometime between now and hibernation, we will sand the rust, prime and paint the cross-brace, and spay some rubberized undercoating on the body I-beam. I was lucky.

This year was the best, I must thank my good friends who helped make this a most memorable homecoming week and look forward to next year.
